Max Mara The Cube

Max Mara The Cube concentrates on the research of innovation that has always characterized Max Mara Group, blending a cutting-edge spirit with the easy living approach of contemporary apparel to shape an innovative idea in terms not only of design but also of craftsmanship and technique.

Max Mara The Cube is an original design item that has been included into the collections of the Staatliche Museen in Berlin and of the FIT in New York, where it has been displayed as a “cult object” within the ‘Fashion and Technology’ exhibition. To celebrate The Cube’s global reach, and our ongoing collaboration series, these iconic coats are captured in three striking locations: in a Peruvian landscape by a London-based Venitian (Lorenzo Vitturi), on Spain’s Costa Brava coast by a Canadian-born American living in Barcelona (Christopher Anderson), and by a legendary New York-born photographer in one of America’s great art institutions (Tina Barney).

LORENZO VITTURI

Lorenzo Vitturi is an image maker whose work is difficult to define: Is it sculpture? Is it photography? Lorenzo muses that photographing The Cube, an object of Italian design in the Peruvian landscape, felt very personal as it reflected the spirit of his own family — “two cultures colliding.”

TINA BARNEY

That renowned, Manhattan-born photographer Tina Barney would select the New York Studio School as the location for her photographs seems only fitting. As Barney said, “I’ve known about the studio school for a long time, and I totally fell in love with it. It’s very much a part of my life.”

CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON

First gaining recognition as a conflict photographer, in 1999 Anderson boarded a handmade boat with Haitian refugees sailing to America that sank in the Carribean. Those images would earn him the Robert Capa Gold Medal for photography. To document The Cube, Anderson photographed his wife, Marion, and their daughter, Pia.
