Swiss born, Milan based fashion illustrator François Berthoud, was first commissioned in 2001 to mark Max Mara’s 50th anniversary. The artist paid homage to the pop nature of the Max Mara coat by combining different parts of its paper pattern over a spectrum of female types.

The t-shirts, tank tops and sweatshirts printed by Max Mara with the artworks of Berthoud, feature the unmistakably rapid yet refined “dripping” technique which characterizes the artist’s work. Using abstract brush strokes and interacting with screen printing the result reproduced exceptional, fashion forward prints of female faces.
